Sun Basket Review

I've been wanting to try one of the meal delivery recipe kits. I looked into Blue Apron and Hello Fresh because I got coupons in the mail. The problem is they didn't have gluten free meal plans so those obviously weren't going to work for me. I came across Sun Basket on Instagram and noticed they had a gluten free meal plan and their ingredients are organic so I was pumped! I rarely make the same recipe twice so it was nice to have a break from planning what I was going to put together for food that week. I ordered 3 meals (2 servings each) and tried to cook them according to the instructions to give a fair review (I normally adjust most recipes).
Things I liked:
- The recipes were really easy
- 2 out of the 3 dishes were very flavorful
- The meals took less time to prep and cook than if I put everything together myself
- All dishes ended up being more than 2 portions for me
- All packaging was recyclable
- The overall menu had a lot of interesting options and gave me ideas for other dishes to make outside of this meal delivery service
Things I disliked:
- I would've changed the instructions and ingredients on a couple of the recipes. For example: I would've cooked the jicama separately from the chorizo in the burrito bowl, I would've used chicken broth instead of water in the pozole, and I would've added fresh lime juice to the rice in the burrito bowl.
- Some of the ingredients weren't the best. The peach for the burrito bowl wasn't ripe, the broccoli slaw to serve the wings was dry, and the radish for the pozole was too soft.
Overall I think Sun Basket is a great option if you don't have time to go to the grocery store and are looking for new recipes to try. I don't think I'd personally sign up for more meals but could see this working well for others!
Here are the 3 meals I selected:
